I earned both my undergraduate and medical degrees from Georgetown University and completed my general surgery internship and urological surgery residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and MD Anderson Cancer Center, where I served as Chief Resident.

Depending on the condition, these may include recurrent infections, urinary retention, kidney obstruction, permanent kidney damage, bladder dysfunction, sepsis, infertility, worsening sexual dysfunction, chronic pain, or progression of an undiagnosed cancer. The first consultation begins with a detailed review of the patient’s symptoms, medical and surgical history, medications, prior treatments, laboratory results, and imaging. I then perform a focused examination and review any available records with the patient.
Depending on the concern, the evaluation may include a urinalysis, bladder scan, urine-flow testing, bloodwork, PSA testing, ultrasound, CT imaging, or other diagnostic studies. I explain the likely diagnosis, available treatment options, expected benefits and risks, and the next steps in straightforward terms. Patients should leave the consultation with a clear, individualized plan rather than a one-size-fits-all recommendation.
9. What treatment options are available for kidney stones?

Kidney-stone treatment is based on the stone’s size, location, composition, symptoms, and whether infection or obstruction is present. Small stones may be managed with observation, hydration guidance, pain control, and medication to assist stone passage when appropriate.
Procedural treatments include extracorporeal shock-wave lithotripsy, which breaks stones into passable fragments, and ureteroscopy with laser lithotripsy and basket extraction. Patients with an infected or severely obstructed kidney may require urgent drainage with a ureteral stent or nephrostomy. Large or complex stones may require more extensive surgical treatment.
We also emphasize prevention through stone analysis, blood testing, 24-hour urine evaluation, dietary counseling, and preventive medication when indicated.

I have more than 15 years of urological training and clinical experience, including over 13 years of independent urological practice in the Houston area. During that time, I have learned that excellent urological care requires more than selecting the technically correct procedure. It requires listening carefully, understanding how the condition affects the patient’s quality of life, and tailoring treatment to the patient’s health, priorities, and expectations.
Experience has also reinforced the importance of early diagnosis, prevention, clear communication, and offering minimally invasive treatment when it can produce an effective and durable result. My goal is for every patient to understand the diagnosis, the available choices, and why a particular treatment is being recommended.
