“2026 Update: Dr. Frank Mastandrea graduated with honors from Saint Louis University, earning a degree in Chemistry and Biology. During college, he studied abroad in Madrid, Spain, and was elected to Alpha Sigma Nu, the Jesuit honor society. He was also a member of the swim team and volunteered as an EMT. Dr. Mastandrea has contributed to several publications on bladder cancer and urinary diversion procedures. He later became a laparoscopy instructor, teaching advanced surgical techniques such as lymph node dissections, nephrectomies, and partial cystectomies. His experience led to a strong interest in minimally invasive and robotic surgery. During his residency, he helped start the cryotherapy program at Moffitt Cancer Center under Dr. Pow Sang. In 2002, he completed Da Vinci robotic surgery training and later helped establish the robotics program at St. Joseph’s Hospital, where he also served as head of the Robotics Committee. He is widely recognized in the Tampa area as a leader in minimally invasive and robotic surgery. Dr. Mastandrea has been in private practice since 1996, first practicing in Hudson, Florida, before taking over Dr. Mawn’s practice in Tampa in 1998, where he continues to practice today.
