St. Mary's Basilica is the historic Mother Church of a Phoenix, rooted in the Franciscan tradition and built-in 1880. It is also one of the city's icons and attractions for residents and tourists, and it is listed on the National Historic Places Register. The basilica is the place where you can discover the most extensive collection of stained glass windows in Arizona and a 26-rank pipe organ designed by the Schantz organ company. St. Mary's has a great history of outreach, which, through education, health care, and philanthropy creates community. There began the world's first food bank, St. Mary's Food Bank, and the Phoenix Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
