Sacred Heart Church is one of the oldest historical churches in Raleigh. The church was established in 1879 and is a vibrant and growing downtown congregation whose mission was to feel the love of God in teaching and practicing their sacramental life. The church held nine (9) masses a day, of which three (3) were in Spanish. The historical and religious meaning, Sacred Heart, is connected to the Diocese of Raleigh and the Holy Name of the Cathedral of Jesus forever. Sacred Heart Church features Gothic elements, such as lancet windows, pointed arches, mock buttresses, and a corner tower with a spire. The church has a statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the main entrance.
