“Ruffner Mountain spans 1,038 acres and is a privately owned metropolitan wildlife park. The preserve provides educational programs for children and adults and includes a rehabilitation center for wildlife. Hikers can enjoy the 14 miles of trails, ranging from easy to difficult, which branch and loop all over the mountain at various difficulty levels. The trails are open to the public from morning to evening. Student groups from pre-K to undergraduate levels frequently use the trails for science research studies, and other organizations and local hiking clubs actively enjoy the paths. The preserve prides itself on providing fun, hands-on, and relevant field trips. This reserve also offers hiking opportunities, educational programs, and artifacts from the mining days. The nature center features exhibits, gift shops, and services for families. There is also an outdoor, roofed area with tables near the bathrooms for simple picnics or other small events.”
