OAK GROVE LAKE PARK REVIEWS
This has been my favorite park in Chesapeake thus far. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. The water when you first walk in is so pretty! It's quite tranquil, but very popular so you won't be the only one there. I will say the parking lot is too small but I suppose you can just park across the street temporarily. It's a nice 1.5 mile loop so it's very beginner friendly. I will warn that there are animals on the path, some fluffy some not so fluffy so always be vigilant. There was a mid sized snake to the side of the path the last time I went. The right side of the path looks downright magical! All in all this park is a must visit!
I walk here every day that weather allows and it is always interesting and fun. The natural beauty and the people out with their families and friends or walking their dogs make it a very special place. The city spent a good chunk of change creating and maintaining this place and it shows, and it is much appreciated.
I can't believe I haven't checked it out until this year! It's a great place to enjoy nature! Hoping to see the rest of the park next time.

NORTHWEST RIVER PARK REVIEWS
This is yet another great free park in Chesapeake, VA. And it doubles as a campground for those of you who are more adventurous and outdoorsie. There is the campground side and the free park public use area which is open until 6:45pm I think. There are a few different parking lots to choose from. I only went on one trail and headed back because this is definitely not a park for those of us who don't get out much. It's really big compared to other parks in the area so that means a lot of walking. There are restrooms and I think a store at the main entrance. They offer plenty of amenities like kayaking and canoeing and paddle boating, but again I only went on one of several trails they have. If you're looking to branch out into more adventurous parks I would highly recommend this one as I said early It's pretty big so there's a LOT of walking to do.
My boyfriend and I stayed here for three nights in a tent. Had an amazing experience. Bathrooms were clean, hiking trails were excellent, they offered mini golf and boat rentals which was awesome. Campsite was quiet and relaxing, and gated which added a level of security that was nice. We are from New York and would come back just for this camp site. Had an unforgettable time!
This entire area is awesome. Great place for the dogs and horses. Lots of areas to picnic. Restrooms are clean. Definitely worth the drive to spend the day.

INDIAN RIVER PARK REVIEWS
This is a good park in Chesapeake, VA. Admittedly I was lost for a bit and confused because it was a multiuse trail with mountain bike sections. There are some really pretty aesthetics and natural canopies along the trail. There are no restrooms or shelters as far as I saw. I'll have to explore deeper next time so I can see more of what it has to offer and learn how to navigate the full trail and NOT get lost.
A great place for kids who live hiking. Plenty of spaces to just hang out and dig in the mud, get messy and explore. There are occasional benches for snack breaks and bridges over the creek/river to drop sticks and leaves from and watch them go under and show up on the other side. If you bring a dog, bring your own doggie bags and please pick up after yourself!
A well-maintained park with fun trails! Definitely worth a visit!
