The museum is committed to recognizing and honoring the people of Dena'ina soil, cultures, and languages. The museum's mission is to serve people, place, planet, and potential, in the pursuit of a sustainable and equitable North, with creativity and imagination for what is possible. They bring Northern artistic practice, culture, and science with links to places, ideas, and individuals worldwide. Experts provide the backdrop for Alaska and the North's history, literature, science, and technology. The museum has collections of 2,500 historical and ethnographic items on loan from the local historical society. The museum has a collection of 25,000 objects and 500,000 historic photographs. The 5,000 square feet make space for more galleries, the back-of-house, and the library.”
