Fantastic Caverns is America's Ride-Thru Cave, built by an Ozarks farmer with his dog, who crawled into a little hill entrance. The cave has more than 7,300 documented cave formations that dot the Missouri landscape. Fantastic Caverns offers a complete ride tour, which lasts 55 minutes and is held in a Jeep-drawn tram. The trams move along the path left behind by an ancient underground river. The cave is one of the world's most beautiful natural wonders, with giant columns extending from small cave pearls coated in crystal clear glass and delicate soda straws glistening with minerals from floor to ceiling. Pythian Castle was built in 1913 by the Knights of Pythias and was later granted by the U.S. military. Here, German and Italian prisoners were assigned during World War II for medical treatment and as laborers. The first floor of the Pythian Home of Missouri was constructed to include a meeting room, ballroom, grand foyer, dining hall, and sitting parlors. On the other hand, the second floor was developed to house adults and kids with many dormitories, living rooms, a theatre, and changing rooms for recreational events. The castle offers historical tours (during the day), murder mystery dinners, ghost tours (at night), and other seasonal events. Pythian Castle is also used for cultural arts and special events and is available by appointment.
