“Dr. Thangamani Muthukumar holds the Associate Professor of Medicine position at Weill Cornell Medical College. He serves as the same institution's Associate Director for the Nephrology Fellowship Program. He earned his medical degree from Madras Medical College in Chennai, India. He completed his residency in medicine and nephrology fellowship at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh, India. Dr. Muthukumar obtained a master's degree in clinical and translational investigation from the Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences, where he underwent advanced clinical and translational research training. His extensive expertise lies in nephrology, hypertension, and transplantation medicine, with a particular focus on advancing the field of kidney transplantation and kidney diseases in bone marrow and stem cell transplantation. Dr. Muthukumar underwent nephrology training in both India and the United States. He became a research fellow in transplantation immunology at Cornell University, joining Dr. Manikkam Suthanthiran's research laboratory. Actively involved in research, he focuses on the molecular aspects of transplant rejection and biomarkers, with numerous publications in this area and grants from the National Institutes of Health and the American Society of Transplantation supporting his work. Dr. Muthukumar is also an ad hoc member of the NIH study section and has been recognized as a Fellow of the American Society of Transplantation (FAST) and the American Society of Nephrology (FASN). In 2017, he was elected as a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI), a prestigious medical honor society in the United States.
