Jesse Bumstead is the manager of Jack Fry's. The chef adds a touch of French flavor to Southern favorites like shrimp and grits, lamb chops, and Jack’s Burger. The restaurant has a warm, welcoming vibe with live jazz music, making it a great spot for lunch, dinner, or just drinks. Jack’s Burger is made with locally sourced dry-aged beef, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, and a special pickle on a brioche bun, served with fries. You can also try the Beef Filet, which includes grilled tenderloin, asparagus, crispy fingerling potatoes, sage butter sauce, Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, and crispy prosciutto. First time visiting Jack Fry's and it didn't disappoint. We started with drinks which immediately struck us both as some of the best cocktails we've ever enjoyed. Next, we enjoyed salads--both were good, but I would recommend the brie salad. For entrees we enjoyed the roasted chicken and the salmon. Both were very fresh, well plated, and delicious. The chicken plate immediately evoked a great nostalgia for holiday gatherings. For dessert we enjoyed the cinnamon pear cheesecake and the chocolate cake. Both were very rich, and flavors exceeded our expectations. The cheesecake was vibrant with fall aromas and colors. The inside of the restaurant itself is perhaps dated, but evokes a nostalgia for a bygone era. It's also crowded, but with a lively positive energy accompanied by a live pianist.

Iconic. 91 years and still iconic. We celebrated our anniversary tonight and had the absolute most memorable night! This will now forever be the place we celebrate, us. Great food and atmosphere! The service was amazing and the drinks tasted great! We did not make a reservation and ate at the bar, I’m so glad we did because we had the best bartender! Piano music made the place all that more special, can’t wait to visit again.

It's Cracker Barrel on a Sunday... food was good, as usual, seasoned just right and arrived quick and hot. We were seated near a larger, loud party, at a table for 4 though we were a table of 5, even though there were round tops available, so not sure what was up with that. Maybe our server was next in the seating rotation and the round top wasn't in her section. No worries though as our server did an excellent job of taking our orders, keeping us informed of our order status, brought biscuits and corn bread to the table, and kept our drinks topped up. Thanks.

I had a iced smores latte which was really good, but would probably be even better hot. My food came out very quick and was great- and I came right at opening, so I expected to wait but was pleasantly surprised. My waitress, Alicia, was really great and very attentive.

Wow...this place is really awesome. They have got really great menu to pick your order from. Prices are affordable, food tastes great, service from staff is also superb, and most importantly is it is at the closest proximity from Uofl campus.

Awesome spot downtown. The ambiance is classy but casual and would be a great spot to stop in for a quick bite or plan a nice date night. The menu is small but has a great variety. Our waiter, Jared, was fantastic and super knowledgeable about the menu. All of the food was fantastic. I’d definitely recommend the cornbread appetizer (pro tip: order it with double butter) and the southern fried chicken.

A really nice place, tried this place out when we were visiting Kentucky and the food was amazing and our waiter was great. I ordered the chicken and it was so good that I forgot to take pictures and the portion size is really big and their corn bread was amazing as well.

Jared and Kiersten were fantastic today even with how busy the bar was with the snow storm rolling in. They were very knowledgeable when asked about drinks and bourbons, friendly the whole time and attentive to all the customers. Food was delicious at breakfast and dinner too. Highly recommend.
