PROTZEL'S DELICATESSEN
Since 1954
Here’s The Deal:
Protzel's Delicatessen is an independently owned and operated bagel shop in St. Louis, MO, since 1954. This casual establishment allows customers to customize their deli sandwiches in the style of New York, alongside offering coffee and bagels. Bob and Evelyn Protzel opened their Delicatessen with dreams of great victory and prayers that they would provide for their young family. They take pride in preparing their salads daily, creating gefilte fish, roasting briskets, cooking corned beef and tongue, and making pickles and freshly ground horseradish. The menu includes a wide range of healthy options and various bagels. A specific condition was set, requiring passing the secret recipe to a young, kind, and deserving deli man upon retirement, with no intention of selling or giving it away otherwise. Bob agreed to the condition, and the secret was transferred to him with a simple handshake. The deli also provides an impressive assortment of mustards and specialty items. At the same time, their bakery case offers fresh breads, bagels, rolls, homemade cookies, and traditional Jewish baked goods like komish bread (mandel bread, mandel brot, komish broit, etc. Here, holiday menus and catering menus are also available.
