One of the few places that lives up to the hype. I saw a long line snaking outside and it took us 20 min to enter the store. I had high expectations and I was not disappointed. We ate have the bread we bought in the car before we arrived home. The pain epis and sourdough were the best but we obviously have not tried 5 percent of what is on offer. I will try more variety in the future and update my review.
Delicious bread and friendly, helpful staff. We get bread any time we are in the area and it is always delicious. Our favorites are: olive bread, pan epis, walnut currant loaf, and the pizza slices (sooo good we sometimes eat them for breakfast!) Get there early if you can and expect a bit of a line but the bread is definitely worth it!
The line is long, but it goes really fast. You should be quick about what you want though, because there's barely any room for two or three customers to stand (because of CV, only one person is allowed inside, even if you come as a party of 2 or 3). The overall display is awesome with a large variety of breads and pastries to choose from.

Classic old school French style rustic bakery, cranking out old world breads and a number of styles, including one of the best constructed and baked croissants in the entire Bay. As with most great bakeries, the earlier you come, the better. Luckily for us, this is located directly next door to Peet's, coffee's and t's where you can get a delicious coffee latte to go along with your croissant. Or I can. Or I did. Okay, you get the idea. Great place, great people. I recommend.
Wow! Their almond crossiant and chocolate almond croissant are the best I've ever had. I'm sad that it took me this long to discover them. My friend loves their olive bread loaf. Great place to go before your Claremont hills hike. I say before because they sell out of everything by early afternoon so beware! There is also a line, but it dies down fast. Don't miss out on trying their scrumptious goodies!
Wow - honestly the best baked goods I’ve ever had! We stopped in to fuel up before a day of hiking in the hills. The almond croissant was huge and incredible. We also tried and loved the fruit croissant (apricot), the chocolate almond croissant, and the ham and cheese.

I've been going here for over fifteen years, and have never been disappointed by the quality or presentation of pastries, cakes, or tarts, or the friendliness of its employees and owners. A real labor of love from a devoted team to its customers and to the art of baking.
We love Masse’s! They did a great job with our wedding cake! Marsha and her husband were so flexible and kind, really great to work with! We got a seasonal black currant cake and it was beautiful!
OK, the most elaborate cakes in Berkeley and don't ask for non dairy fare. "You need to go to an American bakery. We do European style". Delish. Worth the allergic reactions!
