Picante Cocina Mexicana is one of the best mxican restaurants in Berkeley. The restaurant offers Homemade tortillas & local cheeses to make up the Mexican plates at this festive cafeteria-style spot. Picante is an expression of their love for Mexico. They grind organic corn daily for their tortillas, import Mexican herbs, spices and chiles, and have local artisans craft cheeses that replicate fresh Mexican queso. Love also explains everything from the naturally raised meats they grill to the Mexican folk art they sleuth for their walls. PICANTE REVIEWS
What can you say about Picante other than WOW! I was on my way over to my warehouse on Jones street where I keep a small supply of Brinker Hadley Soearhoffers and Pigtillian Langerhans for use in the bull run, and passed by Picante Restaurant....Well let's eat, I said outloud startling the woman on the sidewalk, and as I was parking she comes over and asks what we're having....I told her Mexican, and she said she wanted Italian and walked away. The food at Picante was Amazing! It was perfect in every way, 5 stars all day long.
The manchamanteles chicken was pretty good. The Salsa was very flavorful. I loved the option of corn tortillas. The staff was nice and the pickup process was easy. You can pull right by the restaurant and they’ll hand you the food so you don’t have to get out of your car.
This is a remodeled version of that restaurant. Very clean and modern looking. The food was delicious but a bit expensive and on the smaller side. Good selection of beers, too. I wish they could turn on outdoor heaters which didn't work but it was not that big of deal. They also have large parking and a lot of street space.

COMAL REVIEWS
We had some excellent food at Comal. We sat at the bar and got an up close and personal view of the well-run kitchen and its highly trained team. The food isn't exactly 100% traditional Mexican cuisine, but it's still firmly grounded in it. We had the carnitas tacos with citrus and the duck enchiladas as entrees and both were even better than we expected. The guacamole and three salsas paired with their chips were also delicious. We had a small snafu with the service, but after pointing it out, our server immediately corrected it to our satisfaction, which is all one can expect. All in all, our meal was a treat and we felt this place was deserving of its reputation and Bib Gourmand listing. We will be back!
Can't say enough about this place. Great energy, clean and modern. Menu is exciting with new things to try and protiens change based on what is good. Great cocktails. Fresh made guacamole, salsas and tortillas. Margaritas made from scratch. Huge tequila and mezcal selections.
This place was recommended via the Michelin app, and it did not disappoint! Cocktails were top notch, service very receptive, house-made chips were next level, and the food (chicken livers and fish tacos) were superb!! Was only here for work travel but will definitely be coming back next time I’m in town!

LA MISSION REVIEWS
One of my favorite Mexican places. It's open till midnight, has delicious chips and salsa, and the veggies and greens are from local farms. Go here for late night goodness or a bite with a friend. Portion sizes are big!
While the building looks very Tex-Mex it becomes apparently clear the moment you step in that this place is not. With a beautiful patio to sit and enjoy whatever you like the atmosphere is just as good as the food. I highly recommend anything mole.
I was expecting this place to be expensive. It was very affordable for this area. The service was great. Very friendly. Good food. Excellent salsas. I like that they support our indigenous community (aka immigrants). No human is illegal.
