2026 Update: State Indian Museum is dedicated to exhibiting traditional items illustrating the different cultures of the state's inhabitants. The population of California is the most diverse and one of the largest in the Western hemisphere, made up of more than 150 distinct tribal groups that speak at least 64 different languages. The museum hosts artifacts and information, and also serves as a cultural meeting point and displays Indian cultural items, including traditional baskets, along with some of the redwood dugout canoe, ceremonial regalia, beadwork, and hunting & fishing tools, some of which are more than twenty-four hundred years old.
