3 Best Museums in Sacramento, CA

The Sacramento History Museum has so much information about the rich history of this area that more than one visit is recommended. There is something for everyone, from children to grandparents. Learn about the formation of the Capital City, view a kitchen from the 1920's, and learn about the historic fires that have happened in the Golden State. There is also an exhibit about the earthquake of 1906 in San Francisco and an enormous amount of data from the formation of Sacramento, to the raising of Sacramento's buildings following the Great Flood of 1862, to the Gold Rush era, which brought many miners and their families to Northern California in search of riches. There is so much more to offer in this incredible museum and we highly recommend a visit to anyone interested in learning about the history of Sacramento and Northern California.

We did the underground tour. It was fabulous!! Our guide, Samuel Clemens, was so knowledgeable and entertaining. The museum admission is included with the tour, and is so interesting. Anyone with a love of history will enjoy this!

This is a great little museum to check out in Old Town! It has 2 stories, a printing press area, a section dedicated to Campbell's Soup and panning for gold outside! We went to the mini minds kids event for free art activities and explored the museum too.

My family and I had a wonderful experience here! The staff was so knowledgeable and helpful in showing our kids some things. The museum is small, but has a lot of information to read about. They plan to add more hands on experiences for kids in the near future. We had been learning about Indigenous populations prior to coming and it really helped to make some connections during our visit. I recommend PBS American Experience videos as well as Honest History journals for kids. These resources are helpful for different levels of understanding of our Native populations as well as the historical effects on their way of life.

This place where in our city is probally the best little museum to visit not only because I'm Native American but because it's a small but very nice place to visit with the family to learn of The Native culture. And there's so many things to see and the gift shop has very beautiful gifts ! It's also very tranquil environment out side there a water fountain in lake and Sutter Fort right across the way that is so worth visiting also. if you are a history junkie like us ! It's not borin at all! We would definitely take our family again would of posted pics of inside but we weren't allowed to take pics inside I believe

It’s also enjoyable to walk around the museum. Worthy to go into to see the native Indian life.
