"Point State Park has 36.4 acres of parkland and is a beautiful place to spend an afternoon with a concrete promenade circling the rivers. The park is a vibrant space with a blend of historical significance, recreational opportunities, and striking features. The park also features a massive fountain for cooling off and splendidly landscaped grounds made for strolling. The park has boating, a fishing pier, outdoor and indoor activities, environmental education, and interpretive and recreational programs. The park provides recreational space for workers, residents, and visitors in downtown Pittsburgh and acts as the site for major gatherings. Point State Park is excellent for playing, running, and relaxing, with a great flat area for skating and an open grassy region.

2026 Update: Point State Park sits at the exact point where three major rivers meet to form the Ohio River, creating one of Pittsburgh’s most iconic scenic locations. The park preserves the historic grounds of Fort Pitt and Fort Duquesne, both of which played major roles. The site is officially designated as a National Historic Landmark because of its military and historical significance in early American history."

"Highland Park is a large municipal park with over 287 acres of parkland. The park has a vast expanse of woodland and a maze of trails. The park features a modern bike track, sand volleyball courts, the Pittsburgh Zoo, and PPG Aquarium. There is a swimming pool, a space-themed playground, and a popular activities building. Highland Park offers indoor and outdoor activities and meeting areas, with wheelchair access available. People spend time with friends and families in their free time, enjoying the park's extensive green spaces, which create an inviting and relaxing atmosphere, making the park an ideal destination for visitors.

2026 Update: Highland Park contains large water reservoirs that continue to play a role in Pittsburgh’s water supply system while also creating scenic walking loops and panoramic viewpoints. The grand entrances feature bronze sculptures created by Italian-American sculptor Giuseppe Moretti, adding historic artistic landmarks to the park. The Reservoir Loop is one of the city’s most popular walking, jogging, and cycling routes because of its smooth paved paths and open lake views."

"Mellon Park is an excellent place for kids and families, home to a walled garden with lovely architectural features. The park features a walled garden and a tennis center. Mellon Park has a basketball court, a playground with a splash pad, baseball fields, a water fountain, walkways, a garden, and picnic groves. The park offers tennis classes for younger children ages 4–7 and other age groups up to adults. Mellon Park offers live music and free concerts every Sunday. In the park, people meditate, listen to a podcast, or read a book under a tree, and families and individuals can create cherished memories while enjoying the park's offerings. The park offers free entry.

2026 Update: Mellon Park is recognized as one of Pittsburgh’s designated historic landmarks and is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The park serves as home to the Pittsburgh Center for Arts & Media, supporting exhibitions, arts education, photography, filmmaking, and community cultural programs. Mellon Park became Pittsburgh’s first public arboretum, featuring labelled tree collections and more than 100 tree species throughout the grounds."

POINT STATE PARK REVIEWS

This has got to be one of the smallest state parks, but is a real gem! Very well done, with promenades along both the Allegheny in Monongahela rivers as well as slightly what is walking trails through the center. also offers great views of a large part of downtown Pittsburgh and the many bridges across both rivers.

I have a lot of memories in this place. Point state park Absolutely Beautiful park to walk around. We parked in downtown and then just walked to the park it’s was hard a little bit to find parking close. The fountain looks really nice. This park is perfect to see all the sights around the three rivers of downtown Pittsburgh.

Beautiful location surrounded by the rivers. We love it here so much. The only issue we had is that the address for the park is taking you to a different area other than the park itself. I used Wyndham hotel as a point to actually find parking and to be able to go to the park.

HIGHLAND PARK REVIEWS

This is a beautiful entrance way to a park with many wonderful features. The fountain is huge vibrant and a wonderful place to sit and enjoy the garden plants and flowers. It’s always a pleasure to watch parents and toddlers play in the open spaces around the fountain. Straight up the staircase is the Reservoir a great place to walk or jog and enjoy the view. To the left is an awesome children’s playground revamped last summer. To the right is open space that hosts summer concerts and also leads to the walking trails. The entry garden is a pleasant welcome to Highland park!.

One of my favorite parks in Pittsburgh. We love going up here on sunny days and having picnics. The loop is great for pedestrians to walk, run, or bike on too and is very safe now given their updates to the car lane. They have a really fun playground here too!.

One of the most beautiful entrances I've seen to a park. Go here when it's drizzling or raining, or when there's snow. It'll be mostly empty and you'll get to see it in all its beauty.

MELLON PARK REVIEWS

Mellon Park is such a treat. It has a lot of lovely area for picnics. Paved paths. Large, mature trees of many species. A nice rose garden to stroll through. Very dog friendly. There's a serene area with a fountain that has constellation lights in the ground, so you get to see a neat display of you happen to visit at night.

Beautiful park! Its dog friendly with both concrete pathways and large grassy areas. Also has a ton of beautiful flowers and small gardens- which makes it a popular spot to have family photos taken.
