"Cafe 222 is a fun and casual spot during the day that offers creative takes on classic American comfort foods, like their pumpkin waffles. This cafe is located in Island Flats. Terryl Gavre founded this cafe. Terryl made money from selling a movie script and moved to San Diego to open the cafe. The cafe is great for a classic, cozy dinner with booths and counter seats. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The cafe has won the Gold Medallion for ‘Best Breakfast’ 14 times from the local restaurant group and was called ‘Best Breakfast Downtown.’ They have plenty of heated outdoor seating and offer online ordering for takeout. Some popular dishes are the tuna melt with American cheese on white bread and Southern-style chili. There are paid street parking spots nearby. Cafe 222 also provides a separate menu for kids.

I’ve ordered the Egg Burrito no.5 Really tasty, especially with the red salsa. I guess the Burrito had 2 lbs so be prepared. We arrived before 9am on a sunday morning and there was only a 2-5 min waiting line. Later it became more busy. Great spot that exists since 1992.

Incredible breakfast burrito!!!!! The salsa to dip it in was fantastic and the ratio of potato, bacon, and egg was perfect. Perfect location to pick up something delicious and walk to the beach to eat.

The Big Breakfast #1 was huge! I will take some for leftovers and usually eat a lot. Delicious too and friendly service and nice prices.

My wife and I visited San Diego for our anniversary and saw Café 222 recommended on TikTok—so we had to try it! We ordered the All-American breakfast and a waffle, and wow, the food did not disappoint. But the real star? The potatoes! Crispy, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was cozy, and the service was great. We’re definitely coming back next time we’re in town!

I love visiting this place when I'm in town and I always love bringing new people here. All these years later, this place still doesn't disappoint. Great quality food, reasonable prices and always friendly service! I was lucky enough to come two days in a row during this last trip!

So happy we stumbled on this little spot, the tamale and eggs are perfection, the peanut butter and banana stuffed french toast was delicious and not too sweet. Service was so friendly and fast, we loved it and can't wait to come back!

CAFFÈ CALABRIA REVIEWS

This morning I came to this coffee shop to have a cup of coffee. I liked the atmosphere. There is plenty of space, comfortable tables. The place was clean. It was a pleasure to be here. The coffee shop has its own coffee roaster. The service is fast and pleasant. We had croissants and sandwiches and they were really tasty and fresh. They also heated our pastries to keep them warm. As for the coffee, it is delicious. I am quite satisfied with the place and the food and drinks. I recommend everyone to visit this place. It's one of the best I've been to.

My husband and I come here on a Sunday basis. Not only is the coffee excellent, their pastries are delicious. This feels like a little slice of Italian heaven in the middle of North Park. I personally love the “No Computers” signs because it’s nice to be around people who are disconnected from the internet and interact with each other. If you’re not a coffee drinker, check out their pizza and happy hour on Wednesdays! It’s the best deal in town.

Didn't get the pizza that is baked in the oven pictured but had tasty caprese with wonderful heirloom tomatoes in olive oil and a wonderful cafe lattee.
