"Chinatown Inn has a vibrantly colored exterior that gives way to an exclusive indoor space serving traditional Chinese eats. The owners and wait staff are extremely friendly and prompt. They have always enticed their customers with delicious and abundant entrees at reasonable prices. Chinatown Inn offers a Cantonese menu including Szechuan and Hunan dishes to satisfy their customers' ever-changing tastes. The restaurant has diner-style booth seating and four-seat tables. The restaurant has their own parking lot. The dishes are affordable or indulgent as you want, and you can get quite a healthy portion for a reasonable price.

2026 Update: The restaurant continues serving customers in downtown Pittsburgh and is still known for its traditional Chinese dishes and long history in the area. Many people in the city are familiar with the restaurant because it has been part of the neighborhood for many years. "Sesame Inn is a local restaurant serving classic dishes in an exclusive and comfortable space. The interior is a well-decorated modern atmosphere with big windows and natural sunlight coming through in the afternoon. Their varied menu features over 100 items. Sesame Inn is proud to have the ability to serve authentic, gourmet-style Chinese dishes, including Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghai, Beijing, and Cantonese dishes. They take great pride in providing the best customer service with delicious food. They have extended their menu offerings to include a full sushi bar and popular Thai dishes. In addition, they serve beer selections and crafted cocktails. They also have a dining room for events where they can manage arrangements personally. Their Moo Shu Specialties are served with four Chinese pancakes, which you may fill with mushrooms and a julienne vegetable mixture, or with a choice of meat served with a roasting sauce.

2026 Update: It continues to show online ordering and active service at its locations. People in the area still visit Sesame Inn for its Chinese and Asian-style dishes, and the restaurant remains a familiar spot for both dine-in and takeout in."

Highly recommended! I was looking for a sit down Chinese restaurant similar to ones I had been to growing up, and tried Chinatown Inn for the first time. Atmosphere is comfortable and nicely decorated. We were sat quickly and greeted with waters and hot tea shortly after.

This is one of the last Chinese restaurants/places in Pittsburgh old Chinatown district. There are other Chinese restaurants and Markets in Pittsburgh, but this restaurant has that traditional western Chinese cuisine vibe to it.

Absolute best Chinese food in Pittsburgh. It's a classic. Only ever had great experiences. Was there for lunch today. It was packed. I was in and out in 20-25 minutes. Food is always piping hot and fresh. The egg drop soup is the best I've ever had at any restaurant!

I admit a little bias with Sesame Inn, it's been a special place for me since moving to Pittsburgh, regardless of where it's located. The original off McKnight Road location was one of the places where my wife and I went to feel like we were a having a "fancy night out" when we were engaged and just skirting by in a one bedroom apartment. When we got married and had our rehearsal dinner, we coaxed my mother (who insisted on paying for the affair and also does not love Asian food of any kind) to have the get together at the original Sesame Inn, and I still remember the time spent with loved ones and the enjoyment that came from the Lazy Susan of many fresh dishes.

Clean and upscale dining atmosphere. The portion and generous and price is very reasonable ($17 per person). The taste of most fried rice, noodles, and chicken were all fantastic. My favorite is the seafood supreme, this is a must try. I would definitely go again

We went to their new place, not so great, they lost their appeal, they downsized to a fast food style restaurant with sitdown accommodations. The food was great so my wife said. They are disheveled but yet they are in a new place, I give them credit , I am just being honest. We used to be able to go there with a high-end crowd now they are a Applebee’s type atmosphere. Which is OK, but not what we expected for them,, by the way if you wish to have a drink of alcohol you need to bring your own they do not serve any alcohol at this time and they did not let anyone know this.
