“St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church is situated in Louisville and is a testament to its rich history, narrating the tale of a community's journey, blessed by God through adversity and prosperity. As the fourth parish established in the city and one of the oldest within the Archdiocese of Louisville, their church embodies a legacy of faith spanning generations. Erected on the grounds of a modest brickyard in 1853, their church bears the name of the patron of the Bishop, Martin John Spalding. Led by the parish's inaugural pastor, a Franciscan priest hailing from Bavaria, efforts were concentrated on community organization and establishing a parish school. In 1858, the Ursuline sisters from Germany were enlisted to inaugurate the parish's inaugural school. Within six years, the parish outgrew its initial structure, necessitating the enlargement of the building to its current size and configuration in the form of a cross. Sacred relics are resting within glass reliquaries beneath the two side altars.
