I appreciate the birth center so much!!! I had a really long labor that ended up lasting over 41 hours. While I did not end up giving birth here because I had to transfer to the hospital due to the long labor causing extreme exhaustion and my body sort of stalling labor, I am so grateful for Nancy and the birth center midwives and team. I am sure if I had simply gone to the hospital when labor began and was in labor for the same amount of time, I would have been inevitably pressured into have a c section which is not something that I wanted nor was it necessary. I still gave birth naturally and I was able to labor most of the time at the birth center which is a calm environment with people who were supportive and caring. Throughout my pregnancy the staff at the birth center made me feel genuinely cared about and not just a number, something I had felt when I went to my first prenatal appointment at a regular obgyn. The group prenatal have been lovely and have given those of us in the group, a community of other new parents who have all given birth within a few weeks of one another. The midwives at the birth center truly care about their patients and they do everything they can for them. They offer plenty of resources for pregnant people as well as new parents. There are weekly groups, and a network of prenatal and post natal care providers that are easily accessible for patients of the birth center. If I was to give birth again, I would 100% come back to the birth center, only hopefully next time I won't have to transfer to the hospital. Thank you sf birth cente

The best place to have a normal, caring, and safe birth experience, sidestepping an overly capitalist and dysfunctional healthcare system. As an Aussie living in the Bay Area I found it strange that midwives were not guaranteed to be a part of childbirths in hospitals. The data also shows that the surgeon/nurse combo underwritten by private hospitals’ collective fear of being sued leads to more interference and control of the birth experience than is necessary. My wife and I have had both of our kids at the SF Birth Center and both times the experience has been phenomenal. The midwives truly care about YOU and honoring your preferences. They provide exceptional care during pregnancy and after. They have a brilliant program to walk you through what to expect and connect you with a community who is in the same boat and share the same values. Definitely recommend them.

I cannot express enough how much I loved the experience of preparing for birth and having our son at the SFBC! Alexa plus all of the midwives there are passionate and incredible. The best medical care I've ever received in my life. Midwifery care all the way.

Kelly is an amazing human being, full of kindness and empathy but above everything else a POWERHOUSE of knowledge and expertise when it comes to your pregnancy and postpartum journey. She combines her scientific/medical background all while making room for your intuition and personal choices. She conducts her business in a highly professional manner. For example, she has been consistently responsive to any of my messages and inquiries often getting back to me within seconds and rarely exceeding 24 hours. Also, Kelly is insanely organized; there is structure and planning to everything that she does (prenatal/postpartum visits, patient info collection, insurance processing, etc..). Also, I really appreciate that she leverages privacy-respecting communication tools with her clients. She is also incredibly savvy in terms of navigating medical politics and bureaucracy.

Kelly is an incredible midwife and lactation consultant. Kelly gracefully blends the art and science of pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum with acute clinical skills and deep empathy. She manages to take the entire clinical picture into consideration while also having the skill and experience to apply to your personal context. I can't say enough about the incredible quality of her postpartum care and lactation support. We had a complicated start to our breastfeeding journey, I would not have known how to manage these challenges or had the strength to push through without Kelly's support. I truly credit our incredible breastfeeding relationship to phenomenal skill and detailed care Kelly gave us. Which is the most precious gift in the world! Kelly provides the care I think all people should have.

Kelly and her team have provided exceptional care for our family. We worked with her as our midwife for prenatal care, birth support, and postnatal/postpartum care. As a queer, multiethnic/multicultural family, it's been really important to us to work with care providers who are not only knowledgable about different types of family formations, but also sensitive to our unique needs and wants. Kelly brought care, tenderness, humor, and intentionality to our partnership, that fostered a sense of belonging and resourcefulness throughout our journey. For our second child, Kelly also provided lactation consultation, which was especially important given a history of challenges related to feeding. She helped us develop plans to set us up for success and worked with us in moments of overwhelm to recenter and troubleshoot.
